Will.I.am said that coders are the new rock stars, and we couldn't agree more. Coding is becoming a critical skill, with more jobs opening in technology than any other industry and innovation happening in IT that is affecting the future of every person on this planet. Technology is changing how we work, regardless of what field we're in, and shaping the way we communicate, travel, play and even shop. Yet the U.S. is expected to see a shortage of talented developers at the same time that the industry is exploding with growth.
According to Rajat Taneja, executive vice president of Visa and a LinkedIn Influencer, the line between art and science is blurring, but there aren't enough students in computer science degree paths to fill the void that's quickly growing at IT companies. In fact, citing a recent study, Taneja points out that the U.S. could face a shortage of up to 190,000 workers with deep analytical skills, as well as 1.5 million managers and analysts, in nearly every industry by 2018. Technology is an omnipresent force in the global workforce, but we need more people who specialize in that technology to continue its forward momentum.
"I strongly believe that technology teaches you how to solve problems better, faster and with more structure," Taneja wrote. "You gain a certain critical thinking through cause-and-effect, sequence commands, identity patterns, use procedures and debugging. This kind of methodical thinking can help you succeed in any career path. Consider the butterfly effect: If I make a small change here then that could have a large impact somewhere else and technology teaches you how to account for that regression before it's too late."
What we need are schools that teach students applicable skills that will help them enter this lucrative industry now. Enter Coder Foundry.
Our efforts to provide students with real-world experience in our coding bootcamps is focused on the exact problem that Taneja recently discussed. IT is one of the fastest growing industries on the planet, with even the oil and agriculture industries depending on solid IT. If we don't continue to supply this momentum with talented developers, it's going to slow and the people of the world will suffer as a result.
If you're considering coding jobs, or want to become one of the new rock starts, consider Coder Foundry to gain a strong foundation in C#, .Net and the Microsoft-based systems that companies are looking for talented individuals to work with. Together, we can continue to shape the future of this planet.
